THE EDITORS’ PICKS
The earliest recorded sense of the word pick is ‘to peck’, and it is this bringing-together of the ideas of probing, tasting, and bringing to the reader a small beakful to hold and savour that we want to convey while calling this section The Editors’ Picks.
We read about six hundred portfolios of writing between us every semester, and these long nights of lonesome toil change dramatically ever so often because a student reaches out to us and throws a switch inside our heads, and light comes streaming in.
This section is a small act of gratitude, an attempt at saying to students who put their all into writing that we hear them, are moved, and enjoy our jobs once again because they shared something with us.
